Vester MacIntire

Vester is a farmer and father of three soon.
He and his wife Gladys do their best to keep everyone in their lives on
the straight and narrow but that's getting harder and harder. He grew up
with Hettie and his cousin Davan as his closest friends and feels the need
to make sure they stay in contact, as well as trying to keep everyone
around him happy. |
Gladys MacIntire

Gladys is Vester's long suffering wife. She
grew up in the mountains and deals with the harassments of Vester's family
only because she loves him very deeply. She works as a cook for the local
school to help support the family. The only friend she really has is
Hettie. |
Hettie Dennehy

Hettie is the local midwife and a childhood
friend of Davan and Vester, the latter who has remained friends with her
(despite the complaints of Vester's very racist father). Hettie has
become distant from many of her old friends but she still tries to find
time for Vester and Gladys. She views Davan with cautious concern. |
Seth MacIntire

Seth is Vester's and Davan's
grandfather. Unlike his notorious son John, he's a generally kind
and loving man - although senility is rapidly taking its toll on him.
He'd developed a love for seeing his body "unhindered" and desperately
hopes others will learn to appreciate it, too. |
J.D. MacIntire

Vester's and Gladys's oldest son, age four.
He's quiet and daydreams often and generally does what he's told. |
Fred MacIntire

Vester's and Gladys's second/middle son,
age two and a half. He tends to say whatever is on his mind - and a
lot is on his mind. |

Davan MacIntire

Vester's older cousin and childhood
bestfriend, Davan realized early on he'd never have a future with his art
back in Arkansas. So far, however, he doesn't have much of a future of it
anywhere. Davan tries hard but is easily discouraged. He's also not the
best at keeping in touch except when he's got debt. He generally means
well. |
Florence Tanders

Davan's upstairs neighbor. Not much is
known about him but she always keeps tabs on him and does her best to
watch over Davan - because someone has to. |
Albert Melanson

Davan's landlord. There are conflicting
reports as to whether he's really as incompetent as he seems or it's all a
shrewd act, but either way he's a constant nuisance. |
Dale Sade

Davan's new boss on the king of a crumbling
greeting card empire. Hate, bullying, and dollhouses are his chief hobbies. |
